IT’S MATCHDAY! The wait is finally over – Chelsea will welcome Arsenal to Stamford Bridge later this afternoon in what is expected to be a blockbuster London derby.
A few players returned from the international break carrying a few minor knocks, but the Blues seem to have done relatively well to evade any major blows. That being said, we don’t want to tempt fate just yet with questions marks still hanging over the likes of Reece James, Axel Disasi and Nicolas Jackson.
In other news, the transfer window may be shut but there’s still plenty of life left in the rumour mill. Victor Osimhen continues to be heavily linked with a move to Chelsea as Mauricio Pochettino eyes a new striker, meanwhile Jadon Sancho appears closer than ever to leaving Manchester United.
So, with that being said, stay with us at football.london as we keep you up to date on everything you need to know as it happens LIVE from Stamford Bridge!
Chelsea supporters are planning to remember Eden Hazard with a banner before the clash against Arsenal this weekend. The 32-year-old was left without a club this season after Real Madrid terminated his contract a year ahead of a schedule.
Despite reportedly receiving up to as many as six contract offers since leaving the Santiago Bernabeu, Hazard decided to hang up his boots and enjoy the riches of his hard-work. In honour of the Blues legend, an updated custom banner will be displayed across the Matthew Harding Lower stand prior to kick-off against Arsenal.
According to CFCUK Fanzine on X, formerly known as Twitter, the banner will be deployed five minutes earlier than usual in order to make time for the silence remembering victims of the recent events in Israel and Gaza.
Will James play against Arsenal?
Reece James could definitely play a part against Arsenal today. Mauricio Pochettino remained tight-lipped on the issue as he tries to gather his troops after the international break.
“I think he was training with the group, said Pochettino. “We are really happy with his recovery and, after his injury, he is doing well.”
For FPL managers, the 23-year-old defenders represents an excellent option when fit. At £5.3m, he is a reasonably priced option because of his first-choice status at Chelsea and his ability to conjure up attacking returns.
