Raphael Varane and Mason Mount have both returned to United training ahead of their Champions League opener against Bayern Munich.

The French defender has missed United’s last two matches through injury but looks set to return for their match in Germany this midweek. Mount was also spotted back in training after a recent injury that saw him miss the last three matches.

Sofyan Amrabat is yet to make his debut for the club and is unlikely to feature against Bayern, howeve after he was spotted undergoing an individual training session away from the main group. Fellow midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, 18, was also spotted doing solo fitness work with a coach away from the rest of the first-team group.

Mason Mount and Raphael Varane may be fully involved, but Sofyan Amrabat and Kobbie Mainoo are both training on their own during today’s open session.

Amrabat withdrew from international duty with a precautionary issue and is yet to feature for United, while Mainoo has been absent since picking up an ankle injury in pre-season.

Wednesday will likely come too soon for both, but it is an encouraging sign.

Mason Mount and Raphael Varane were both involved in training today as they continue to recover from injury.

United hosted an open training session at Carrington before they fly to Bavaria to face Bayern Munich tomorrow evening.

Mount has been absent since picking up an injury at Tottenham, while Varane came off at half-time against Nottingham Forest. It is not yet clear whether the pair will be fit to feature tomorrow evening.

Jadon Sancho is ‘not an issue’ for Borussia Dortmund with the German side ruling out any reunion, according toBILD.

Sancho could leave United in the next window after a very public fallout with Erik ten Hag. He has been banned from first-team training and was not involved against Brighton Saturday.

Dortmund had been linked with a move for the winger recently, but this most recent report has poured cold water on any speculation.

United quartet Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof were involved in a post-match ‘bust-up’ after Saturday’s defeat to Brighton, according tothe Sun.

Fernandes is said to have confronted McTominay, while Martinez and Lindelof clashed after a dismal defensive display.

United have signed 12-year-old goalkeeper Billy Hartley from Fleetwood Town as they continue to overhaul that position across the board.

The young shot-stopper had been at Fleetwood’s academy since the age of eight, moving into his role between the posts halfway through a four-year spell after showing quality in that area of the pitch.

The League One club have confirmed that they will receive a ‘significant training compensation fee’ from United for Hartley, who will join up with the academy set up.

United are interested in a move for Atletico Madrid defender Jose Maria Gimenez, according toFourFourTwo.

Central defence is one of four priority positions identified by Erik ten Hag to strengthen next summer, with Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire both 30.

At 28, Gimenez is slightly older than the profile United looked at this summer, but the Uruguayan has been a regular feature in Spain and is in his prime.

Bayern Munich have welcomed Raphael Guerreiro and Kingsley Coman back into training ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League clash against United.

Left-back Guerreiro suffered a torn calf in pre-season and could still be absent for tomorrow, but Coman only missed one game and could be fit to feature in some respect.

Jamal Musiala also came off the bench against Bayer Leverkusen on friday after missing most of the season, and the 20-year-old could be in line to start.

Harry Kane admits that United remain a ‘dangerous’ opponent despite going through a tough period in the early weeks of the season.

Kane’s first Champions League game with Bayern will see him come up against an old Premier League foe in United tomorrow evening. He has enjoyed a strong start to life in Germany with four goals in as many league appearances.

It had been clear for years that De Gea was on the decline, but he retained a cult following thanks to his legendary status at the club, which overlooked his many flaws and focused on his undeniable world-class ability to save shots.

There is a train of thought that says that is all that matters for a goalkeeper. If they keep the ball out of the net, they are doing their job. It’s an outdated philosophy, proven by the fact the best teams in the world all now have more modern goalkeepers who are more comfortable with their feet than their hands.

David De Gea could return to Spain with RealBetis keen on a move, according to Fichajes.

De Gea left United as a free agent in the summer upon the expiration of his contract. He had been with the Reds for 12 years.

Interest in the 32-year-old has seemingly been rare all summer, but as a free agent, he is free to join a club outside the transfer window.

United might get an early look at a future transfer target tomorrow with Spanish outlet Fichajes reporting that they are weighing up a bid for Serge Gnabry.

Erik ten Hag is now concerningly light on the right-wing, with Antony and Jadon Sancho both out of action for the foreseeable future. That leaves only Facundo Pellistri as a natural option.

The report suggests a move for Gnabry could set the Reds back around €60m. Last season, the 28-year-old registered 14 goals and five assists in 34 Bundesliga appearances.

United were humbled against Brighton on Saturday afternoon, a 3-1 defeat confirming they have made a worse start than last season.

United youngster Gabriele Biancheri has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The young striker was enrolled into a scholarship at Old Trafford in January, leaving Cardiff City. United paid a six-figure compensation fee to the Welsh side.

They intended to hand the teenager a professional contract once he turned 17 and wasted no time, with the contract signed on his birthday on Monday.

For more than a decade now it has felt like United can’t go a season without setting some kind of unwanted record or benchmark – and this year has proved no exception.

A year ago United were bottom of the league for the first time in 30 years and Erik ten Hag had become the first manager to lose his opening two games in charge since John Chapman in 1921. But then things started to go well. Really quite well. A first trophy in six years was secured at Wembley and a third-place finish in the league earned a return to the Champions League.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been ruled out for ‘several weeks’ after sustaining an injury against Brighton.

The right-back sustained an injury in the closing stages of Saturday’s defeat and is now facing a spell on the sidelines for several weeks.

Wan-Bissaka is now unavailable for Wednesday’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich and the club has confirmed a further assessment is required to determine the exact length he’s expected to be sidelined for.

European opponents Bayern Munich are interested in signing Scott McTominay.

That’s according to developing reports from The Mirror on the United midfielder.

United were “open to offers” for the Scotland international this summer.

However, a proposed move to Fulham or West Ham did not materialise and the 26-year-old even started for United during their 3-1 defeat against Brighton on Saturday afternoon. McTominay has reportedly been earmarked as a target for Thomas Tuchel in the forthcoming windows.
