Crews working on repairs to a large burst water main affecting Kells … – Irish Water


Dedicated water service crews will continue to work on repairs throughout the night

Uisce Éireann crews are working to restore the water supply as quickly as possible to impacted customers following a large burst to a water main impacting the following areas in Co Meath: Kells, Drumone, Crossakiel, Moylagh, Drumbarragh Newcastle, Millbrook, Knockbrack, Summerbank, Coolies, Rudagh, Fennor, Stoney Road, Ardfrail, Farnaglach, Old Castletown, Creevagh, Kilskeer, Boltown, Kells Business Park, Oldcastle Road, Mullingar Road, Climber Hall, Cannon Street, Suffolk Street, Bective Street, Farrell St, Athboy Road, and surrounding areas.

Every effort is being made to reduce the impact on homes and businesses, however, the repair works are complex due to the location of the pipe and the presence of other underground services. Due to the size of the burst, reservoirs have depleted to unsafe levels and crews are working hard to replenish storage levels and maintain supplies while repairs are underway.

Low water pressure and/or outages are expected to continue until approximately 10am tomorrow morning, Wednesday, 20 September following repairs, as water refills the network, especially for those at the end of the network or on higher ground.

Dedicated water service crews will continue to work on repairs throughout the night, if necessary, to restore normal water supply to impacted customers as quickly as possible.  

Alternative water supplies with clean drinking water, which were put in place this morning at Crossakiel, Moylagh, and Kilskeer GAA grounds will continue to be available until normal water supply returns. Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure as per Health Service Executive (HSE) advice.
