South Africa’s “A Journey of Diversity and Inspiration” consumer event officially commenced in Guangzhou. Gcobani Mancotywa, Regional Manager for Asia/Australia and New Zealand/Middle East at South African Tourism, and Melusi Khumalo, Regional Marketing Manager for Durban Tourism, attended the event to announce the official launch.
This marked South African Tourism’s first offline industry roadshow to Guangzhou since the pandemic, following the Beijing event on September 11 and the Shanghai event on September 13. The Guangzhou event featured 35 exhibitors, including South African ground operators, hotels, tourism-related product suppliers, airlines, and saw participation from nearly 70 domestic travel agencies.
With the reopening of outbound travel, the international travel demand from Chinese tourists is surging. South Africa aims to inspire Chinese travelers with diverse travel experiences, positioning itself as the next travel destination for Chinese tourists before all services, including flights, travel products, and ground services, are fully prepared.
On the day of the event, South African Tourism launched an online interactive South Africa quiz campaign. From September 15 to October 31, consumers can participate in a daily quiz challenge about South Africa, deepening their understanding of the country and igniting their enthusiasm for travel. Consumers who complete the quiz will have the chance to enter a daily lucky draw. The grand prize is a KrisFlyer Miles reward program offered by Singapore Airlines (redeemable for round-trip tickets for two between China and South Africa). The winner will be announced at noon on October 31, 2023. Additionally, over a thousand other prizes, including luxury stays at Cape Town’s Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel, South African national treasure tea, and South African national banquet wines, await lucky winners, inviting Chinese travelers to embark on a journey to South Africa.
One of the partners for the “A Journey of Diversity and Inspiration” consumer event is the national chain of coffee shops with African coffee as its speciality – Coffee Z (小咖主咖啡). Both parties are collaborating to reach consumers through African coffee and culture, engaging with elements of everyday life. In addition to the online quiz campaign, consumers can also participate in social media interactions with the South African Tourism and Coffee Z, use South African-themed materials, and visit Coffee Z coffee shops to learn more about South Africa, taste South Africa, and plan their trip to South Africa.
To expand the impact of the “A Journey of Diversity and Inspiration” consumer event, South African Tourism plans to host another consumer event in mid-October in Changsha. At this event, a mini carnival celebrating the diversity of South Africa will be held in Coffee Z’s flagship store for Changsha consumers.
