PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men’s soccer fell in a hard-fought match, 1-0, to Bryant University Saturday night at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
The Bears (1-4-0) finished with seven shots and three corner kicks, while the Bulldogs (6-0-0) had four shots and one corner kick. Bryant remains unbeaten and has still not allowed a goal this year.
“I thought our performance was very good tonight, definitely the best of the season so that’s a positive we can take from it,” said Chase Wileman, Friends of Brown Men’s Soccer Head Coaching Chair. “Unfortunately, in both boxes it’s just not good enough which has been pretty consistent this fall so far. We give away a soft goal, then struggle to really create anything dangerous in their box even though we have set pieces and we are in good areas consistently.”
Each team had a scoring opportunity in the early minutes of the match. Senior Charlie Adams had the first shot on goal for Brown in the eighth minute, but it found the hands of the keeper.
Moments later in the 10th minute, Bryant found the back of the net on its first shot. Senior Inigo Villaldea sent a long cross to classmate Adrian Camacho who fired it home.
The 1-0 score would stand for the remainder of the game.
The Bulldogs controlled the tempo in the second half, possessing the ball and keeping it away from Brown.
Sophomore goalkeeper Henrik Weiper came up with a save in the 58th minute and Junior Kyle Gee had a shot in the 61st minute that was blocked by the defense.
Brown played aggressively in the final minutes with a pair of corner kicks, but time was not on its side as the clock ticked to zero’s.
The Bears are back home again for a match against Providence College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
