Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea are among the clubs hoping to complete late deals in the final two days before the summer transfer window closes on Friday evening

Football Digest: Man Utd to be active ahead of transfer deadline

The summer transfer window is down to its final stages and that usually means plenty of exciting late deals, some surprises and plenty of chaos.

Manchester United are set to be among the busiest of the Premier League clubs, with Erik ten Hag desperate to strengthen his side in two positions. United are in negotiations with Chelsea over a loan deal for left-back Marc Cucurella, after losing Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia to injury, while Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat or Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could arrive to bolster the midfield.

Liverpool have two main focuses: warding off interest in Mohamed Salah from Al-Ittihad and signing another midfielder. Saudi Arabian sides have been targeting the Reds all summer and don’t look to be done yet, with their window open until September 20. Meanwhile, Liverpool are in talks with Bayern Munich over Ryan Gravenberch.

Chelsea have spent over £350million on transfers this summer but aren’t done yet. Manchester City star Cole Palmer has emerged as their primary target at the end of the window – and they are determined to get the deal done.

Manchester City have sealed a transfer for Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes, while Arsenal and Tottenham still have business left to complete. It’s going to be busy one….

Man Utd update

Erik ten Hag could be forced to sell Scott McTominay to Fulham to ensure Manchester United sign Sofyan Amrabat.

The Red Devils want to secure Amrabat’s services before the transfer window closes on Friday night but are struggling to agree a deal with Fiorentina.

The Serie A club have already rejected a loan offer from United for the Morocco international, 27.

Like United, Fulham on the hunt for a new central midfielder because Bayern Munich are trying to sign their current star Joao Palhinha.

The Londoners have identified Amrabat as a replacement for Palhinha and are in talks with Fiorentina over a deal.

Fulham are also interested in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, another one of United’s deadline day targets.

Ten Hag may need to sell McTominay to their rivals to stop them from swooping for Amrabat – even though he wants to keep hold of the Scotland international.
