About Concern: Concern Worldwide is a non-governmental, international, humanitarian organization dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries. Concern has been working in Türkiye since August 2013 and currently looking for an experienced and qualified Agronomist based in Northwest Syria.

Reporting line: Programme Officer

Closely work with: MEAL and Programme teams

Contract Length: September 2023 – July 2024

Job Purpose: The Agronomist ensures the day-by-day implementation of agricultural project activities, follows up the beneficiaries and progress of the activities, and prepares progress weekly reports on agriculture field activities. He/she contributes to the effective and completion of agriculture activities in a timely manner, delivery of quality outputs, and achievement of outcomes with maximum impact and benefit for the beneficiaries.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Programme Implementation

  • Developing a detailed activity plan in line with project objectives, ensuring that this plan is implemented, and any expected delays and/or modifications are communicated and raised in a timely manner to the Programme Officer
  • Refine the aims and outcomes of the overall agriculture project component including but not limited to: the selection of tools, seeds, and beneficiaries training.
  • Implement day-to-day field-based activities and document all related agriculture activities.
  • Developing a detailed curriculum for technical training and delivering the training under the supervision of Programme Officer.
  • Implementing training for agriculture-related activities, land preparation & soil fertility, planting, integrated pest, and disease management, water management and nutrition-sensitive harvesting and post-harvest practices.
  • Responsible for regular follow-up sessions with the beneficiaries for on-spot guidance and disease control methods and supervising the awareness sessions for all beneficiaries.
  • Assist the data collection team during the assessment by calling beneficiaries and filling out questionnaires.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all information related to the collected information and documents.
  • Coordinate with the M&E staff as necessary to identify the project`s activities’ quality issues.
  • Other duties as assigned by the line manager.
  • Actively promote meaningful community participation and consultation at all stages of the project cycle (planning, implementation, M&E);
  • Work with relevant colleagues to ensure that the Complaints and Response Mechanism (CRM) is functional and accessible, that feedback and complaints are welcomed and addressed;
  • Work with relevant colleagues to ensure that information about CRM, safeguarding and expected staff behaviour is disseminated among programme participants and communities

MINIMUM SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • At least Bachelor degree in agriculture engineering or related subject area
  • Two years experience in humanitarian field-based operations with an international or local NGO
  • Data and Documentation Management
  • Presentation preparation skills and lecture experience
  • Computer literate and good knowledge of Word and Excel

WE WOULD ALSO LIKE:

  • Ability to work independently once in the field and show initiative;
  • Ability to translate technical expertise into simple messages that can be communicated to medium- and small-size landowners and small farmers.
  • Farming experience and/or practical application of farming techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience of training communities and households in agronomic production aspects, including design and development of training/teaching aids suitable to local culture and contexts.
  • Flexibility and ability to multi-task under pressure and be solution-oriented
  • Knowledge and understanding of core humanitarian standards
  • Experience in conducting interviews/assessments
  • Adaptable, self-motivated, willing to learn and take on extra duties as required;
  • Commitment to beneficiary accountability and humanitarian ethics.
  • Ability to travel to various locations in NW Syria.
  • Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
