Blue Beetle Joins Injustice 2 Mobile Game – CBR – Comic Book Resources

Blue Beetle is joining the roster in a DC game, Injustice 2, for mobile devices.

The game’s official account on X (formerly Twitter) announced the character’s addition to the game’s mobile port, with a promotional image showing the hero in costume and a caption reading “unleash the power of the Scarab.” Blue Beetle takes on his appearance from the upcoming DC film of the same name, donning a metallic blue suit with wings and insect-like arms coming out from his back.

The developers also shared footage of the character in-game, showing off his moveset which featured a variety of ground and aerial attacks utilizing his various gadgets and powers, such as his wings and the laser weapons at the ends of his bionic arms. As of now, he is only available in the mobile version of the game and Warner Bros. Games didn’t announce any plans for the hero to come to consoles.

Injustice 2 is a fighting game developed by Mortal Kombat veterans NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Games, though the mobile port came from a separate developer and presented more stripped-down, simplified gameplay compared to the original. The game has a roster of original DC characters like Batman, Superman and the Joker, among various others, alongside several guest appearances from characters such as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles who appeared as DLC characters in the game’s original console version.

Blue Beetle was described on the game’s stats screen as a “Tech Legendary” character, referencing his heavy use of gadgetry and weapons in place of raw superpowers as well as his rarity in the game’s built-in lottery system. Unlike the console versions of the game, which uses a typical DLC model for new character releases, Injustice 2 Mobile requires players to spend in-game currency, which is earned through challenges or real-money purchases, to roll for a chance to add new characters to their rosters.

According to Blue Beetle director Angel Manuel Soto, the game was a source of direct inspiration for how fight scenes play out on screen, with much of the character’s moves making their way into the film. Soto did not stop there, however, as he reportedly also took inspiration from games like Mega Man and Final Fantasy VII, teasing several Easter eggs referencing those games in the film.

Injustice 2 Mobile is available to download for free on Apple and Android Devices.
